What difference will it make?
The Antenatal Foundation Training is designed to equip practitioners with an effective approach to supporting families and improving emotional health and wellbeing for babies and their parents or carers. The training explains the fundamentals of antenatal and early infant brain development in accessible, relevant terms to support practitioners in any work with pregnant women and families. Equipped with this knowledge and working through a series of real-life case studies prepares practitioners to engage families and young people with confidence to make a real and lasting impact.

The Solihull Approach model at the heart of all our training and resources has a significant evidence base both quantitative and qualitative showing the improvements for:

- Introduction to antenatal brain and infant development
- Infant mental health, behaviour and communication
- The Solihull Approach: Containment, Reciprocity, Behaviour Management
- Considering case studies antenatally
- Emotional wellbeing, with a focus on infant mental health and early relationships
- Parent-baby relationships
- Practitioner support for parent baby relationships
Delivery
The Antenatal 2 Day Foundation Training is designed for any practitioner working with pregnant women, babies and their families.
‘Open training’ is delivered throughout the year for individual bookings to a cohort of up to 12 delegates.
‘Closed’ training is bespoke delivered for teams of staff of up to 12 individuals within an organisation.
The Antenatal Foundation Training can be delivered as ‘live virtual’ training or face-to-face training by Togetherness trainers, as required.
There are 14 days between Day One and Day Two of the training to enhance theory into practice.

Resources
Delegates will require a supporting Resource Pack (Journey to Parenthood Resource Pack) which includes a comprehensive summary of the Solihull Approach theoretical model, case studies, and a wide range of information on in utero development, baby brain development, the birth experience, fathers’ emotional responses to pregnancy and birth, unplanned or unwanted babies, teenage parents, parents with a disability or mental health problem and feeding.
