Understanding trauma to strengthen emotional wellbeing

Trauma can be complex and it affects people in different ways, whilst also being influenced by past and present relationships, consciously or unconsciously – it can be a unique experience, but with some universal similarities. Processing these traumatic experiences effectively can help people to manage triggers and move forward positively, supporting them to strengthen and improve their emotional resilience.

Understanding your own trauma is our universal, online pathway, designed to explore how trauma affects emotional wellbeing. The self-guided pathway is a gentle first step towards making sense of trauma experiences to support healing and nurture resilience.

Private and easily accessible, it was developed by our Togetherness clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and professionals with both clinical expertise and experience of delivering trauma support. The course guides people through theories and ideas to help recognise trauma in themselves and others, understand their own experience of trauma, and learn how it may shape responses, relationships and even the sense of self.

Whilst not a replacement for counselling or therapy, empowering people to recognise, explore and ultimately understand their psychological reactions to traumatic experiences begins their journey to better emotional resilience and – ultimately – fostering better connections and relationships with others.

“For the first time I really understand why trauma has kept coming and my life has been like a hamster’s wheel. I finally feel like I’m stepping off and seeing things differently.”
